Emilia Marceta
League of Railway Women
Emilia Marceta started her railway career at GO Transit in 2007. A division of Metrolinx, GO Transit, or “GO”, is a regional Canadian public transit service, founded in 1967, for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area that carries over 70 million passengers annually by rail and bus.
Emilia’s robust career has included leadership contributions to a variety of professional disciplines ranging from corporate communications to construction.
In 2011, she led the $53 million, multi-year capital contract for the provision of main and non-main track protection within Metrolinx rights-of-way. This was an unprecedented contract for the organization and was integral to the success of the Union Pearson (UP) Express airport rail link. It was during this immersive and intensive experience in the track and signals division that she was exposed to railway construction, operations, safety, and regulatory practices.
In 2016, she joined the signals and communications team, where she is currently a Project Manager, responsible for the administration of various emergent signals construction and consulting tasks deemed ‘early works’ for the Ontario Government’s Regional Express Rail program – a program executed by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario, valued at more than $10 billion. She also oversees standalone construction contracts ranging in value from $1.6 million to $77 million.
Emilia joined the League of Railway Women (LRW) in 2015, as a member and was elected to the board of directors in 2016, as the Public Relations and Outreach Chair. Since joining the LRW, she has positively contributed to the success of the organization, which has grown to over 130 individual members and more than 50 corporate partners.
In 2018, she was named LRW’s Outstanding Member of the Year and was recognized by the Toronto Railway Club for this achievement with an invitation to sit at the head table of their 84th annual dinner, as the youngest member in their history. Emiliahas received numerous honourable mentions from Railway Age and Progressive Railroading for her contributions to the rail industry.
An active member of her community, Emilia volunteers her time and supports several organizations, including: the Oakville Hospital, the Oakville Santa Claus Parade, Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter, and Canada Blooms.
She is a graduate of the University of Guelph and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing Management, a post-graduate certificate in Corporate Communications from Seneca College in Toronto, a certificate in Construction Project Management from Humber College and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Financial Services Management from Dalhousie University.
