Cynthia Garneau Appointed as President and CEO of VIA Rail as of May 9, 2019

On Friday, March 29 2019, the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, announced that Ms. Cynthia Garneau has been appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of VIA Rail.  Ms. Garneau will replace Mr. Yves Desjardins-Siciliano as of May 9, 2019.  Mr. Desjardins-Siciliano had been appointed President and CEO of VIA Rail in May 2014 for a five-year term.

Prior to this appointment, Ms. Garneau was the President of Bell Helicopter Textron Canada and served as Chair of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada.  In her new role with VIA Rail, she becomes the first female President and CEO of the organization.

“Mr. Yves Desjardins-Siciliano leaves behind an incredible legacy at VIA Rail, and has made a significant impact on the Canadian and global rail industry through his direct involvement and leadership.  VIA Rail enjoyed a significant increase in ridership and customer satisfaction as well as higher employee engagement under his leadership” said Marc Brazeau, President and CEO of the Railway Association of Canada (RAC).

The RAC extends a warm welcome to Ms. Garneau and wishes Mr. Desjardins-Siciliano success in his future endeavours.
