Railway Association of Canada welcomes Government of Canada’s support to advance VIA Rail’s High Frequency Rail proposal

June 25, 2019
For Immediate Release

Ottawa, ON – The Railway Association of Canada (RAC) today welcomed the announcement made by the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, and the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of International Development and Minister for Women and Gender Equality, that the Government of Canada and Canada Infrastructure Bank are committing $71.1 million to further explore VIA Rail Canada’s proposal for High Frequency Rail (HFR) in the Quebec City-Toronto Corridor.

“In our 2019 pre-budget submission, RAC advocated for a network of dedicated track to allow VIA Rail to better connect Canadians in the most populous region of the country by increasing train frequencies, shortening trip times, and providing more reliable service,” said Marc Brazeau, RAC’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are pleased with the Government of Canada’s announcement of support today, and look forward to its continued collaboration in advancing VIA Rail’s HFR proposal for the benefit of Canadians.”
