Canadian Railway Hall of Fame

Canada’s railways have played an historic role in the development of our nation, and continue to play a crucial role in driving Canada’s economy. Through the Canadian Railway Hall of Fame, RAC aims to raise public awareness about the industry’s rich history, and the essential role it continues to play in our everyday lives.

Honouring Canada’s Railway Past—Celebrating its Present

The Canadian Railway Hall of Fame recognizes the individuals and communities across this country that have been instrumental in developing a strong and vibrant railway system. Each year, the Hall of Fame Selection Committee, together with members of the Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors, reviews submissions and selects nominees for induction in the following four areas: leaders, heroes, communities and technology.

An Up-Close Look at Canada’s Rail History

Since the project began back in 2002, the virtual Hall of Fame has introduced people across the country and around the world to some of the individuals, groups and technologies that have helped make Canada’s rail network what it is today. From Charles Melville Hays, the president of the Grand Trunk Railway (which eventually became part of CN), to Violet Isabella Cumming, one of the many women across Canada who helped keep the nation’s railway running during the Second World War, the Hall of Fame brings the stories of Canada’s rich rail history to life.
