Railway Association of Canada welcomes Government of Canada’s support to advance VIA Rail’s High Frequency Rail proposal
June 25, 2019Ottawa, ON – The Railway Association of Canada (RAC) today welcomed the announcement made by the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, and the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of International Development and Minister for Women and Gender Equality, that the Government of Canada and Canada Infrastructure Bank are committing $71.1 million to further explore VIA Rail Canada’s proposal for High Frequency Rail (HFR) in the Quebec City-Toronto Corridor. -
Canada’s railways welcome publication of proposed locomotive voice and video recorder regulations
May 27, 2019The Railway Association of Canada (RAC) welcomed Transport Minister Marc Garneau’s announcement of the publication in the Canada Gazette, Part I, of proposed Locomotive Voice and Video Recorder Regulations (LVVR) that specify the technical requirements for rail companies to install these devices on-board their locomotives. -
Canada’s railways continue to support rail safety improvements

April 1, 2019On Friday, March 29 2019, the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, announced that Ms. Cynthia Garneau has been appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of VIA Rail. Ms. Garneau will replace Mr. Yves Desjardins-Siciliano as of May 9, 2019. -
